We're thrilled to reveal the winners of the Tom’

We're thrilled to reveal the winners of the Tom’s Trust Christmas Card Competition at @alderhey in Liverpool! 🎄 We were blown away by the festive entries, making it incredibly tough to choose our top three. 🎨

🥇 1st Place: Patrick, 6, crafted a dazzling Nativity scene. Patrick is currently receiving support from a Tom’s Trust psychologist – what a talented artist!
🥈 2nd Place: Harry, 8, wowed us with his cheerful Christmas trees and reindeer design. Also under the care of a Tom’s Trust psychologist, Harry's creativity shines bright!
🥉 3rd Place: Charlie, 7, whose jolly Christmas tree is simply delightful!

Special thanks to Billy Hui and Wendy Williamson from @SingMe_official, alongside Tom’s Trust psychologist Meghan, for their fantastic judging. 🙌 And a big shoutout to @JohnLewis Liverpool for providing some fabulous prizes to Patrick, Harry and Charlie. 🛍️

Every year on my birthday I post a photo of Tom, marking the passing of another year without him. A reminder of how important the work that Tom’s Trust do in his name; giving support to families like ours in a way that we weren’t.

But the reality is that Tom is our Tom - that tiny bundle that we welcomed into the world in 2001 who filled our hearts. He’s our son, a brother, a grandson, nephew and a friend and will always be a part of our family first. The pain of not being allowed more time with him time with him is too hard and deep to explain. But sometimes life doesn’t give you choices, and we know that the legacy we have created in his absence is truly fitting of him. To offer care and support for other children like him through the confusion and darkness,.

Thank you all for showing so much love and support in his precious memory.

Brain Tumour Awareness Week - "Thank you... for giving clinical psychology such a voice" 💙

We received these notes and cards from our wonderful Tom's Trust Cambridge psychologists (past and present!) to celebrate the NHS funding takeover.

It has moved our internal team to hear how we've furthered such vital careers.

Today, we're sharing Sophie's story, as told by her mum 💙

"Sophie started presenting symptoms six months before her diagnosis. She had dizzy spells, was sick (clear fluid) and had migraines. The months leading up to Sophie’s diagnosis included several trips to the doctors and being told it was allergies, ear infections, being given juice too early in the morning, colds, viruses and many more reasons.

“When she was very little, Sophie had a squint and squint-correction surgery, so we were under Addenbrooke’s Hospital’s optician for check-ups. We went for our routine Easter appointment and we were quickly moved to A&E for a CT scan. This showed an orange-sized tumour. The size was confirmed by an MRI and an operation date was booked. She was stable so we decided to take her home during the lead up. The operation went well and we waited on the diagnosis and prognosis.

“The results came in and Sophie was a lucky one, no further treatment needed. We have just been rebuilding from the trauma. We count ourselves incredibly lucky with our outcome and all the support we have received, and charities like Tom’s Trust have made that support possible. Tom’s Trust has been amazing, they are currently supporting Sophie both at school and emotionally. They’re just an amazing team. Sophie is an amazing, strong and extremely caring young lady, I am so very proud of her."

This Brain Tumour Awareness Week, we’d like to tell you Lochlan’s story.

Lochlan was a “normal, happy and cheeky” six-year-old when he suddenly became unwell in June 2019. He was quickly diagnosed with a high-grade glioma brain tumour. After undergoing surgery, and months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, there were no further treatments left for his medical team to pursue.

He sadly died on 2nd May 2021, at the age of just eight years-old.

Lochlan’s family want to raise more awareness of brain tumours, and the desperate need for more funding to go to brain tumour research and support for families.

Ross said: “Throughout each step of his journey, we were always told to expect the worst, but at each point Lochlan showed his true colours; his bravery and courage to overcome every hurdle that was in front of him. In January 2021, we were told Lochlan had relapsed, and the tumour had spread further into his brain tissue. There was nothing more his medical team could do, other than control his symptoms and keep him comfortable and happy as best they could. We were heartbroken. There is such a lack of awareness of brain tumours and that is just wrong. We urgently need more research into paediatric brain tumours, new and different treatment options and more support for families facing this horrific journey, including more support for all those who have lost a child to a brain tumour.”
