After months of gruelling training, Pride of Britain nominee and Guinness World Record Holder Ben Blowes will run a marathon every day this December to support children with brain tumours and their families.
With your help Ben aims to raise £31,000 to support 31 children and their families with critical mental health support through Tom’s Trust.
£1,000 will support one child with a brain tumour and their family for a whole year. Our pioneering support includes, mental health support, neuropsychological assessments, workshops, group work, parental/sibling support, school reintegration and, where appropriate, bereavement support.
Each day we will tell a child’s story on our social media, highlighting the vital need for our expert mental health program for these children and their families.
Why do children with Brain tumours need support?
When a child is first diagnosed with a brain tumour, it’s a very frightening and worrying time for the child, parents and all their family. Constant hospital visits and stays, gruelling treatment, and long absences from school take an immense physical and emotional toll on their mental health.
62% of children experience a life-altering disability after diagnosis, which can include:
- Emotional, physical and mental damage
- Hearing loss
- Learning disabilities
- Social isolation
Because of these devastating changes, children with brain tumours have the greatest need for mental health support of all the children treated for cancer. A third of children don’t survive a brain tumour and it is the biggest cancer killer of children under 16. Tom’s Trust supports also families who sadly lose their children to this terrible disease.
