This January we are asking our supporters to sign up to our Mile for a Child ‘half marathon your way’, challenge. It is a challenge that invites you to take on a half marathon in whatever way suits you, over whatever time frame suits you. You’re in control. Run, walk, swim, cycle, get your dog out for walkies or skip the whole way. Get it done in a few hours or spread it over a week. It really is up to you.
We all know that January can feel a bit bleak. We might have over-indulged a bit over Christmas, the skies are (usually) grey and our bank balances are probably a bit slimmer! Getting outside and moving our bodies in January can really help our mental health, and we hope this provides a perfect reason to get out and move while raising money to help children with brain tumours, and their families.
Set a goal
We spoke to some of our Young Ambassadors about their goals for 2025. Their answers ranged from getting out mountain climbing, improving grades in English at school to being more independent.
One of those children, Riley, said: “When I accomplish my goals, they mean so much. Start by setting yourself small goals and build them up. A lot of my goals are small ones, but they mean big things.”
Could taking part in our ‘half marathon, your way’ challenge be your first goal for 2025?
Three tips for taking part
1. Set your goal.
2. Do it with a friend. The support and commitment of signing up with someone else is a tried and tested strategy to help get us out and moving.
3. Make a concrete plan and commit to it. Set the day and time you will start and what you need to do, to make it more likely that you will stick to it.
Don’t forget
Remember, with every mile you move and with every pound you raise, you will be supporting another child and helping to change their lives.
