A signed picture of Princess Diana has been discovered by a brain tumour charity and will now be auctioned to raise funds on what would have been the Princess of Wales’ 60th birthday.

Tom’s Trust, a Cambridge-based charity dedicated to providing psychological support for children with brain tumours and their families, uncovered the picture earlier this week after more than a year in storage.

It appeared just days before what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday on 1st July 2021, after being donated to the charity by a friend of Debs Mitchell, Tom’s Trust’s Co-founder. Debs’ friend bought the item for £3,000 at a London auction in 2008.

Similar items are currently going for hundreds or thousands of pounds on online auctions, and the charity has now listed the item on eBay.

Debs, who lost her son Tom at the age of nine to a brain tumour, said: “It seems like fate that it appeared so close to her birthday and also the 10th anniversary of our charity, which we proudly marked on Sunday.

“Princess Diana was well-known worldwide for her philanthropy and it’s heart-warming to know that, even after her tragic death, she is still able to support charitable causes such as Tom’s Trust.

“We are excited to see how much this item will raise. The money will make a huge difference to supporting children and their families facing the tough reality of a brain tumour.”

Just this week, Princess Diana’s Ford Escort sold for £52,640 at auction in Colchester.

Charles Ashton, Director at Cheffins auctioneers, said: “Any items which have a link to Princess Diana are always highly sought-after and come with a premium price tag attached.”

All funds from the auction will go towards providing psychological support for children with brain tumours and their families.
