Transition from Paediatric to Teenage Cancer Services and Wards Trainee Research Project

Moving from children’s services to teenage and young adult (TYA) services for cancer treatment

Researchers at Cardiff University want to understand what it is like to move from children’s services to teenage and young adult (TYA) services for cancer treatment. They want to find out what is challenging about the move, what works well, and what could be improved.

Who can take part?

You can take part if you are:

•  A young person whose cancer care was moved from a children’s cancer service to a teenage and young adult cancer service because of your age;

or

•  The parent/guardian of a young person whose cancer care was moved from a children’s cancer service to a teenage and young adult cancer service because of their age;

What’s involved?

Two conversations (via Microsoft Teams) with a researcher:

•  A brief conversation (about 10 minutes) to take some brief details about your (or your child’s) condition, treatment, and where it took place etc, and

•  A longer conversation (about 60 minutes) to talk about what it was like to move between children’s and TYA cancer services, what went well, and what could have been done differently etc.

Why take part?

By sharing your experience you will:

•  increase services’ understanding of what it is like to move between children’s and TYA cancer services;

•  Help young people and families in a similar situation get the best possible support in future;

•  Young people who take part will receive a £30 voucher as a thank you.
