Grandparent support

At Tom’s Trust, we know that a childhood brain tumour diagnosis doesn’t just change life for the child and their parents – it affects the whole family. Grandparents are often the quiet, unseen heroes, stepping in with love, strength, and stability at a time when everything feels uncertain.

To mark Grandparents’ Day (5 Oct), we’re shining a light on their vital role and launching a brand-new resource created especially for them.

A support booklet just for Grandparents

Our new Grandparents Support Booklet is designed to help grandparents navigate the emotional challenges of supporting a family through a child’s brain tumour diagnosis. It offers guidance on how to:

-Understand and manage their own feelings

-Support their child and grandchild in meaningful ways

-Access emotional and practical help when they need it

-Look after their own wellbeing while caring for others.

This resource was developed in response to what families have told us they need most. It’s part of our mission to make sure every family member feels seen, supported, and equipped to cope with the road ahead.

How to access the booklet

The booklet is available to download for free on our Resource Hub. Whether you are a grandparent, parent, or professional supporting a family, we hope this guide will bring comfort and practical advice when it’s needed most.

We hope our resource hub will help children and young people facing a brain tumour diagnosis, along with supporting parents, guardians, siblings, family, friends, clinical professionals, and schools. We are constantly adding to it, if there is something you would like to see added please tell us at info@tomstrust.org.uk
